Galway Pipe Wine

ABOUT

HISTORY

Galway Pipe is named after Governor Sir Henry Galway, Governor of South Australia from 1914-1920. He was an advocate for South Australian wine with a passion for high quality fortified, consistently visiting South Australia’s wine regions.
When visiting wineries to taste of their finest “pipes” (500L barrels) of fortified, whichever pipe was most to his liking was inscribed as “Galway’s Pipe” and this particular blend was used exclusively at Government House.

With beginnings under the stewardship of the Smith family (Yalumba), we are still a family owned and run business based in South Australia.  We continue to build on the heritage and duty to bring our customers a consistently high-quality product, as Sir Henry Galway would expect.

Our winemaking team are based in Langhorne Creek, South Australia. Head Winemaker and Master Blender Chris Dix , along with Chad Fenton-Smith our Senior Winemaker, lead the team. Two local South Australians with years of wine making experience between them. Together bring their knowledge, skills and passion for quality, to ensure the exceptional standard of Sir Henry Lionel Galway is maintained over the years.
